Music influences

What do I listen to get inspired

I believe my music is the result of the mix of many different influences, not only from bands and guitar players, but also from every moment of my life were some music was playing.

Rock, Metal and Guitar Virtuosos:

I remember the very first band that got me into the rock n heavy music was Iron Maiden, but just because I really liked their cd covers!
Later I started appreciating their music and soon I became a big fan of their first decade. Then I started listening to Guns n’ Roses, Metallica, Megadeth and Pantera among other metal bands. When I started playing guitar I put my attention (like every guitar player) in Steve Vai, Joe Satriani and Yngwie Malmsteen but later Richie Kotzen, Paul Gilbert and specially Michael Lee Firkins that is my favorite guitar player.
I discovered the progressive metal style with Dream Theater and soon I started listening to many progressive bands like Symphony X (one of my favorite bands), Lemur Voice, Everon, Vanden Plas and Shadow Gallery among others.

Film soundtracks:

I also like to listen soundtracks from the movies. When I was a kid I listened for the first time the score from the oldest Star Wars film (A new hope) and I loved it.
Then I found composers like Hans Zimmer (The Rock, Gladiator, Pirates of the Caribbean), Alan Silvestri (Back to the future, Contact, The Abyss) actually my favorite soundtrack composer, Basil Poledouris (Conan the barbarian), and of course John Williams (Starwars, Superman, ET).

Manga and Anime:

Somehow I started listening to anime music (music from Japanese cartoons) and I discovered the amazing Yoko Kanno (One of the finest composers ever!), Joe Hisaishi and a guitar player called Tomoyasu Hotei who wrote the famous track “Battle without honor or humanity” for the movie Kill Bill.

Video games soundtracks:

Another great influence for me was the music from the computer games, yes!
At the beginning it was the music from the Atari 800XL and my favorite was a game called Draconus. Then the Nintendo console arrived and with it more great game music, my favorites: Solstice, Immortal, Duck Tales, Battletoads and definitely Mega Man.
Finally the big games for consoles and PC with professional soundtracks showed up and I couldn’t stop listening to the Starcraft score, Sanitarium and Medal of Honour (Michael Giaccino).
